The Coast... With The Most

By: Angela Ash

I am officially in love with Biloxi! There... I've actually said it. Now, sit back, relax, and let me tell you why!

Situated picturesquely along the sparkling Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Biloxi is a gem of a city. With a population just under 45,000, this is a wonderful place where big city glitz meets small town hospitality.

This is truly a destination that has something for just about everyone. Whether you want to spend a guy's weekend at one of the action-packed casinos, have a romantic getaway languishing on the beach, or envelop yourself in the past with a visit to a historical home, start packing.. because the Mississippi Gulf Coast has it all!

As with any great getaway, the most important place is where to stay. So let's take the stress out of that decision and head straight for the Palace Casino Resort! Boasting the only completely smoke-free casino on the coast, this is my idea of relaxation. Rising between the Gulf of Mexico and Biloxi's Back Bay, expect perfectly stunning views, great gaming action, and championship golf. And yes, even the food is fantastic.

The guest rooms at the Palace Casino Resort are all tastefully appointed, with beds you may never want to leave, especially with the amenities of high speed internet and in room movies. But eventually the slot machines will call. They always do.

Open 24 hours a day, spin away to your heart's content at denominations from a penny to $25 at the Palace Casino Resort. If table game action is your forte, you will not be disappointed. Offering everything from Blackjack to Pai Gow, you select the stakes at your favorite game.

If complete pampering is in the cards, visit the Pure Spa, where you can splurge with a facial, massage, or even sunless tanning. Afterwards, take a refreshing dip in the pool, or relax in the hot tub.

palacegolf

The Palace Casino Resort is the proud home of the Preserve Golf Club, eighteen holes designed by award winning designer and U.S. Open champion, Jerry Pate. Covering 245 acres, it offers five sets of tees, nestled within a nature preserve.

Finally, in the tradition of saving the best for last, comes the food. This is not a tired casino buffet, folks. Indulge in a brand new experience, where you are a part of what finds its way to your plate... at the Buffet. Order your favorite grilled meat, choose your own ingredients at the Mongolian grill, or select from fresh made desserts that would tempt even the strictest diet. And yes... there is a crab leg night!

Other delectable dining options range from the award winning Mignon's Steaks & Seafood to the Palace Cafe & Bakery, with a poolside bar, a sports bar, and a grill somewhere in between. The possibilities are endless!

The Palace Casino Resort is located at 154 Howard Avenue in Biloxi. They can be reached by phone at 1-800-Palace-9, or by visiting www.palacecasinoresort.com. At the end of an amazing renovation, this is THE place to stay!

Now, if your idea of a vacation in Biloxi demands a bit more relaxation, then we have the place for you!

The Edgewater Inn is one of the most charming, delightful places that I have ever had the pleasure to spend the night.  Situated directly on the coast, right across the street from the beach, this is definitely THE place to relax in Biloxi.

"Diversity" is definitly the theme at this inn.  This is not your typical, cookie-cutter hotel, and what a relief that is!  After staying at one chain hotel to the next, it is so refreshing to experience the same amenities and attention to detail, but to also feel like this is literally your "home away from home".  The Edgewater Inn offers several options for accommodations, ranging from a standard rooms to jacuzzi suites, some with a beautiful beach view.  However, I believe that the real heart of this place is in the themed cottages.

edgewater cottage

With names like the Mississipi Writer's Cottage, the Plantation Cottage, or the Biloxi, Sundeck, or Maritime Cottages, these wonderful spaces are the epitome of unique.  The Writer's Cottage was filled with books, antique typewriters, and photographs, giving the rooms such personality!  With two full bedrooms and bathrooms, there is plenty of space to spend a small family getaway... complete with a full kitchen and living room.

And what convenience!  One must simply walk across the street to feel the sand between your toes, or stroll next door to take your chance at the slots.  There's even a Waffle House in the parking lot!  How's that for comfort?  However, in a location that is literally cose to it all, the Edgewater Inn still manages to feel remote, private, and relaxing.

Speaking of relaxation, the inn also offers a sparkling outdoor pool, along with a hot tub, all set in the feeling of a beautiful courtyard.  Comfortable seating abounds, as this is definitely the place to be to unwind, put up your feet after your day's adventures, and watch the sun go down over the sparkling water.

The Edgewater Inn is a sparkling jewel along the golden coast.  Whether you are wanting to experience a beach-side weekend getaway, or have a longer vacation in mind, I can think of no better place to rest your head. You may visit the Edgewater Inn online, or call 1-800-323-9676 to book your stay today!

After you've had your fill of stuffing wads of cash into your pockets and laying by the pool(Ssshhh! A girl can dream!), take a peek at what else Biloxi has to offer!

fortship

My absolute favorite is eleven miles off the coast, and must be paradise. Well, some people do make reference to it as Ship Island. Take the roundtrip ferry to experience beautiful sand, sparkling waters, and even Fort Massachusetts to explore. And keep your eyes open for dolphins. They love to follow the boat. www.msshipisland.com

beauvoir

If history is your thing, don't leave Biloxi without exploring Beauvoir, the home of Jefferson Davis. His last home offers a beautiful view and rooms full of period furnishings. Don't forget to visit the gift shop for hundreds of unique items to commemorate your visit to such a unique piece of history. www.beauvoir.org

One of the newest attractions is the Ohr-L'Keffe Museum of Art. Witness a unique piece of architecture housing what is also a unique collection. This is a must-see for the entire family! www.georgeohr.org
