The Columbus Museum of Art

cleveland artemisia

By Angela Ash

It's true.  I really couldn't sleep the night before. After reading both fictions and biographies, I have never actually seen with my own eyes a work by Artemisia Gentileschi. To say that I am excited is an understatement.

The Columbus Museum of Art is located just on E. Broad Street, but it might as well be in another country, taking into account the treasures that our housed within.  The museum, even while under a bit of construction, is quite remarkable.  Featuring old masters, modernism, and even folk art, the variety of offerings is fantastic.  There is even an area to amuse the younger little artists, while still offering exposure.

I found that I was putting off the inevitable, peaking out of the corners of my eyes when I rounded a corner. I wanted the moment to be triumphant... and I was not disappointed.  Suddenly, there it was... Bathsheba, by the Italian artist Artemisia Gentileschi, 1593-1652.

This museum definitely deserves a visit, especially after the renovations are complete. To visit was my only reason for stopping off in Columbus, on my way from Cleveland to Cincinnati.  And it was worth it.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and parking is FREE.
