Anything Goes

anythinggoes

By Angela Ash

The Tony Award-winning revival of Anything Goes graces the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati February 17-22, 2015.

This timeless classic sails straight in from the Golden Age of Broadway, when characters were larger than life, and the excitement could barely be contained to the stage. Definitely one of Cole Porter's crowning achievements, this musical will have your toes tapping as you are so very tempted to sing along!

The S.S. American heads out to open waters, as love is in the air, along with a little spice of both intrigue and blackmail.  What is expected is tossed out to sea, as this riotous musical comedy lifts spirits and reminds us all that love may often be found in the most unusual conditions, and under extremely peculiar situations!

Emma Stratton is purely magnetic as Reno Sweeney, who demands full attention whenever she steps, dances, or twirls across the stage.  Her interaction with Dennis Setteducati (Moonface Martin) is clever, lighthearted, and brilliant!

Brian Krinsky completely embodies the role of Billy Crocker, who will risk his employment and perhaps even his freedom to attempt to win the hand of Hope Harcourt, energetically played by Rachelle Rose Clark.  These two emit electric chemistry onstage, completely drawing the audience into their star-crossed love story.

The cast also includes Tracy Bidleman, Michael R. Douglass, Drew Martin, Richard Lindenfelzer, Mychal Phillips, and many more talented performers!

The most enticing thing about this musical is the "throwback" feel.  It is packed to the brim with HUGE song and dance numbers, such as "Anything Goes" and "Blow, Gabriel, Blow"!

Anything Goes is directed by Sean McKnight and Jennifer Savelli, and will feature such memorable songs as “I Get A Kick Out of You,” “You’re The Top,” “Friendship,” and “De-Lovely.”

Anything Goes features music and lyrics by Cole Porter, an original book by P.G. Wodehouse, Guy Bolton, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, and the new book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.

If you want a night filled with catchy tunes, comedic romance, and talent like you wouldn't believe, be sure to catch a performance!
