ddp - elf the musical

By Angela Ash

ELF THE MUSICAL will be playing at the Derby Dinner Playhouse through December 31st, so get ready to welcome in the holiday season - Derby Dinner style! Do you know what that means? Expect lots of song and dance, as well as a heartwarming story that will make you absolutely forget how cold it is outside!

ELF THE MUSICAL is produced and directed by Lee Buckholtz, with musical direction by Scott Bradley and choreography by Heather Paige Folsom.

Now, chances are that you've seen the movies, and you've used the lines "I know him!" and "You sit on a throne of lies!" more than your fair share. So, don't worry, this show includes everything you cherish about the silver-screen edition, but with the true vulnerability and excitement that you can only get with the theater.

Oh yeah, and this is a musical. And these song and dance numbers are some of the Derby's best! Expect "Christmastown," "World's Greatest Dad," "I'll Believe In You," and my absolute personal favorite, "Nobody Cares About Santa." I'll give you a hint: nine Santas, an elf (ish) and a late-night noodle shop. What's not to love?

The cast includes David Hussey, Kayle Annable, Brian Bowman, Jillian Prefach, Josiah Richardson, Drew Ashley, Elizabeth Loos, Bobby Conte, Kevin Crain, J.R. Stuart and more. It's a great opportunity to see some new faces at DDP, but still see a few of your favorites in some of their best roles yet!

This cleverly chosen cast step into these roles with great fervor, in a magical, professional show that leaves you wondering if you were somehow transported to the streets of New York City. This is absolutely one of Brian Bowman's best roles to date at DDP, and the adorable chemistry between Jillian Prefach and young Josiah Richardson truly warms the heart just in time for the holidays. And just wait until you see David Hussey's and J.R. Stuart's performances! Could there be a more perfect Buddy or Santa Clause?

And be sure not to miss the Footnotes, DDP's special musical hosts and hostesses, who offer pre-show entertainment, full of memorable numbers. This collection surprises the audience with several solos, shining a spotlight on the vocal prowess of these talented performers as they make sure you're in the holiday mood.

The Derby Dinner Playhouse is located in Clarksville, Indiana... right over the bridge from Louisville, Kentucky. It is a theater in the round, and has been in operation since 1974, making it one of the oldest and largest continuously operating theatres in the country!
