once on this island

Once on This Island is now showing at Actors Theatre through February 23rd, and you will not want to miss a second of this brilliant performance!

With a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by Robert Berry Fleming, the lifestyle and vibe of the island fills the Pamela Brown Auditorium.

In the wake of a powerful storm, the people of a small island in the Antilles learn how to approach a cultural divide created by colonialism. A young orphan peasant by the name of Ti Moune saves the life of Daniel, a member of the upper class slated to marry someone of similar stature. However, it is difficult to suppress young love, and the consequences can be quite impactful.

Throughout the entire show, you'll find it difficult to not tap your toes or become fully immersed in numbers like "Mama Will Provide," "Waiting for Life," "Some Girls," "Forever Yours" and more. Plus, you won't want to blink during Ti Moune's energetic dance at the ball.

This stellar cast includes: Gisela Adisa, Christina Booker, Leilani Bracey, Colin D. Carswell, Lauren Chanel, Rheaume Crenshaw, Cadence Diggs, Bernard Dotson, Ken Early, Bre Jackson, Alfie Dale Jones, Jr., Soara-Joyce Ross, Allan K. Washington and Alexis Louise Young.

Each Cast member of this performance stands out in a unique and special way, yet they all blend together to masterfully craft a moving, eye-opening tale that will stay with you long after the final bow. However, you'll not soon forget the vocal prowess of Bre Jackson as Asaka, the young talent of Cadence Diggs as the young Ti Moune, the masterful emotions of Lauren Chanel as Ti Moune, or the inspired dance movements of Alfie Dale Jones, Jr. as a Storyteller, who also serves as the innovative Movement Associate/Dance Captain.

Be sure to get your tickets early, and prepare for an evening that you won't find anywhere else!
